US Congress Postpones Vote on Cuba Bill

HAVANA TIMES, March 6 — The US Congress put off until next week a vote on the new national budget which includes a bill tacked on that would lift some restrictions on sales of food and medicines to Cuba as well as allow Cuban-Americans to travel more frequently to the island than the once every three years allowed under President Bush, reported IPS.

The bill does not address the issue of the travel ban on the general US population or the most significant aspects of the nearly 50-year blockade enforced by 11 US administrations against Cuba. Nonetheless, some supporters of US-Cuba rapprochement believe any break in the ice could lead to improved relations and further legislation in that direction.
